Terms & Conditions

Understanding the Terms & Conditions of Hampstead Garment Care.

Last Updated: October 2026

Welcome to Hampstead Garment Care. We are committed to delivering fair, professional, and transparent services to all our customers. These Terms & Conditions outline service expectations, operational limits, and legal protections under UK law (including the Consumer Rights Act 2015). By engaging with our services (in-store, online, or via collection), you agree to these terms.

1. Estimates, Final Quotes & Service Feasibility

  • Variable Pricing & Turnaround: Any price provided online, verbally, or via preliminary estimate is an initial guide only. Final pricing and turnaround times are determined upon physical inspection of the item at our facility, based on fabric composition, delicate trims, embellishments, degree of soiling, and specialist processes required.
  • Service Feasibility: We reserve the right to decline processing any garment if, upon inspection, our specialists determine the item is unsuitable for cleaning or carries an unacceptable risk of damage.

2. Expectation of Cleanliness vs. “Brand New” Condition

  • Restoration Limits: Cleaning and pressing processes are designed to refresh and hygienically clean garments. We do not guarantee that items (including wedding dresses, evening wear, designer garments, or vintage pieces) will be restored to “brand new,” pristine, or unworn condition.
  • Permanent Wear: Pre-existing wear, fabric oxidation, colour fading, fiber breakdown, and deeply embedded or aged stains may remain visible after cleaning.

3. Wash, Dry & Fold (Service Washes)

  • Customers must separate colours, check care labels, and ensure items are suitable for tumble drying.
  • Check all pockets for personal belongings (e.g., pens, tissues, coins, receipts, electronics). We are not liable for damage caused by items left in pockets.
  • Pricing is calculated per 6kg load (0–6kg = 1 load, 6–12kg = 2 loads). Mixed loads requiring separation (lights/darks) are charged as multiple loads. Bulky items exceeding machine capacity will be charged as two loads.
  • Delicate, hand-wash-only, non-tumble-dry, or feather-filled items are not permitted in this service.

4. Curtain Cleaning

  • All curtains are cleaned strictly at the owner’s risk due to unpredictable reactions of fabrics, linings, UV-exposure decay, and stitching.
  • Items without care labels will be processed entirely at customer risk.
  • Expected inherent risks include shrinkage (up to 3% or more), UV-rot fabric tearing, blistering of blackout linings, and loosening of hems. Water-based condensation or mould stains are often permanent and stain removal is not guaranteed.

5. Leather, Suede & Sheepskin Cleaning

  • Processed strictly at owner’s risk due to the natural variation in animal hides.
  • Potential outcomes include subtle colour fading, increased visibility of natural scars/wrinkles, hide shrinkage, adhesive bleed, or colour transfer between contrasting panels.
  • Complete restoration of worn or sun-damaged leather is not always possible.

6. Dry Cleaning by Weight (Bulk Cleaning)

  • Cost-effective bulk option for everyday wear. Liability for any single item processed under this bulk service is capped at £35.
  • Household textiles (duvets, curtains, rugs) are not accepted under this service. Customers are responsible for pre-sorting colors and fabrics. Delicate, designer, or sentimental items should be processed under individual standard/specialist service.

7. Pest Eradication Cleaning (Bedbugs / Moths)

  • Specialist handling involving heat treatment, disinfection, and secure transportation to prevent cross-contamination. Surcharges apply.
  • Customers must pre-sort items by fabric type. Complete pest removal cannot be guaranteed if re-exposure occurs at the customer’s premises.

8. Customer Instructions & Care Labels

  • Customers must provide clear instructions regarding stains, delicate trims, or sentimental value.
  • Garments are cleaned according to manufacturer care labels. Requests to clean contrary to care labels must be confirmed in writing and are processed entirely at customer risk.
  • Faded or missing labels require the exercise of our professional judgment, and we are not liable for inherent fabric reactions.

9. Stain Removal

  • We utilize advanced stain removal techniques; however, complete stain removal is not guaranteed. Original cleaning fees remain payable regardless of outcome.
  • One complimentary re-clean may be offered upon request if fabric integrity permits. Aggressive repeated treatments that risk damaging fabric will not be performed.

10. Trims, Accessories & Embellishments

  • We are not liable for damage to or loss of non-cleanable trims, including buttons, zippers, beads, sequins, rhinestones, appliqués, or glued fastenings during processing or pressing.
  • Where removal/reattachment of delicate trims is requested, additional charges apply.

11. Payment Terms & Prices

  • Full payment is required before delivery or cash upon delivery. First-time card payments must be verified by phone. Approved business accounts (BACS) must clear funds prior to delivery.
  • Prices are subject to change without prior notice due to operational costs.

12. Minimum Order Values & Collections

  • Central London: Minimum order value of £50 applies per collection/delivery.
  • Outer London: Minimum order value of £100 applies per collection/delivery.
  • Surcharges may apply for congestion charges, toll fees, or hard-to-access locations.

13. Deliveries, Missed Deliveries & Liability

  • Delivery times are estimates. Delays due to extended drying, re-cleaning, traffic, or weather do not constitute breach of contract.
  • Failed delivery attempts due to customer absence may incur a re-delivery fee. Unattended deliveries left at a designated safe place are left strictly at customer risk.

14. Unclaimed Items

  • Items uncollected or un-delivered after 2 months will be deemed abandoned and donated to charity, recycled, or disposed of without liability. Storage fees may apply after 30 days.

15. Limitation of Liability & Maximum Compensation Caps

To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, our maximum aggregate liability for any lost or damaged item—regardless of the item’s purchase price, age, or sentimental value—is strictly capped as follows:

  • Standard Garment Cleaning: Up to 15 times the cleaning fee of the item, capped at £250 per item (whichever is lower).
  • Specialist & High-Value Items (including Wedding Dresses): Strictly capped at £400 per item.
  • Wash, Dry & Fold Services: Capped at £80 per 6kg load.
  • Bulk Dry Cleaning by Weight: Capped at £35 per item.
  • Exclusion of Consequential Loss: We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including missed events, emotional distress, loss of resale value, or garment hire replacement costs[cite: 1]. All claims account for age, wear and tear, and proof of purchase value.

16. Claims Window & Inspection

  • Claims for damaged or missing items must be raised in writing within 48 hours of delivery or in-store collection, supported by signed manifest or photos.

17. Governing Law

  • These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts[cite: 2].
